UNAIDS – Decriminalization of drug use in the context of HIV

International Network of People who use drugs (INPUD), Release and the International Centre for Human Rights and Drug Policy (ICHRDP) researched, consulted and drafted the recent guidance note ‘Decriminalization of drug use in the context of HIV‘, with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the United Nations Development Programme.

The guidance outlines how drug decriminalisation enables better HIV responses, improving health, social and economic outcomes for people who use drugs, communities and the State. It was launched at the UN’s 69th Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna earlier this month, with Release’ Executive Director presenting the Guidance note to delegates.

Autumn weekend course

Meeting new people and getting their life experience on HIV gave me so much inspiration to live a happy and normal life”.
From previous welbeing course feedback, an answer to question “what was best in the course arrangements”?

The autumn weekend course is aimed for all people living with hiv. During the weekend, we gather together, enjoy the company of peers, talk about living with hiv and relax together. We will take a short hike in the nature near the course location, ending with coffee in a forest hut. We also have time to spend our free time for example in sauna and just talking with each other.

The course is organized near capital area and there will be a buss transfer organized from Helsinki to course venue. Accommodation at the course site is in 2-person rooms.

The course has discussions in both Finnish and English. Participation does not require perfect Finnish or English skills – if necessary, we help each other understand the conversation and interpret from one language to another.

You can apply for participation till 31st of August by this form link. Course participation will be confirmed immediately after the registration period ends. If there are more registrants than there are course places, we will prioritize admission to the course for people who have not participated in HivFinland’s courses in recent years.

You can ask community worker Tappu ([email protected], 044 750 7470) or peer support coordinator Valo ([email protected], 044 750 7462) for more information about the course.

Answer the chemsex questionnaire!

– Help us improve our services and information materials

Through a new questionnaire about chemsex, we hope to gather information on what the needs of people currently involved in chemsex are and will plan our activities and adapt the content of the website to meet these needs also in English.

Chemsex refers to the intentional use of drugs during sex. It is often associated with sex between men, but chemsex also occurs between other sexes.

It takes about 10 minutes to complete the survey. All responses are confidential and anonymous. Individual responses will not be reflected in the results. The survey is open until the beginning of December 2024 by this link.

Positiiviset – HivFinland has produced information on chemsex from the point of view of harm reduction for users and professionals in Finnish.
